Custom Scrapbook FAQs
Of Course You Have Questions

I will do my best to answer some of the most frequently asked questions, but I will almost certainly miss a few. In that case, please feel free to contact me.

By far, my most asked question is

"How can I start my own custom scrapbook design business?"

So now I've finally decided to share my secret.
Learn how you too can make money doing what you love.

Why do the layouts and albums cost so much?

Why do I even need a scrapbook?

How do we get started and what happens throughout the process?

How do I get you my photos and memorabilia?

How long will it take for my project to be completed?

What if I don't like the end result?

How many photos can fit on a page?

Can you fix photographic issues with photos that are already printed?

Will you alter the photo prints that I send to you?

How do I get the journaling on my pages?

Why do the layouts and albums cost so much?

I realize that the cost seems high when first seen. Keep in mind that scrapbooking supplies are not inexpensive and I prefer to use quality cardstock and embellishments. I am also a very intricate scrapbooker, ensuring that each and every element of every page is perfectly done. I am a true perfectionist and the time it takes for me to do one double layout takes up to a full day. Convert that into how much I am earning per hour, and it seems the price is quite reasonable. And can you really put a price tag on your memories and a long lasting legacy? I only wish that my ancestors had created even one layout for me to learn about their lives.

Why do I even need a scrapbook?

I suppose the honest answer to this question is that you really don't. But perhaps the question should be rephrased to why would I WANT a scrapbook? Not only is a scrapbook a beautiful way to show off the photos of the important events and people in your life, it also acts as a family heirloom. Photo albums show only a moment in time. Scrapbooks explore the meaning of that moment and allow for an emotion and feeling to be conveyed. Have you ever looked at an older photo of a grandparent who is no longer with us and thought to yourself, I wonder what was happening in this photo or what was going through her mind? The answer to this question is the gift you give to yourself and to your children and grandchildren.

How do we get started and what happens throughout the process?

Initially, you will use the contact me informational form to let me know you would like a consultation. If you happen to live within 30 miles or so, I am happy to meet with you in person. But this is certainly not a requirement. We can communicate easily through phone conversations and email. We will determine your ultimate goal and the best process to use to get you there. I will determine your photo requirements and needs by a series of simple questions. I can then help guide you through the decision process for the best package for you. Of course, these consultations are always complimentary and require no commitment on your part.

How do I get you my photos and memorabilia?

There are several methods that we can use to transfer your items to me. If you  have only photo prints, you can simply mail them to me. If you have digital prints, you can either email them or send them to me on a CD in several different file types. If we are working on a larger project, a CD would be preferable so the digital photos can remain at a larger resolution and provide a more crisp photo. I ALWAYS recommend that you keep either a copy of the photo print or memorabilia, the original negatives, or the digital file associated with your photos.

How long will it take for my project to be completed?

This is of course a difficult question to answer. It will depend on the size and scale of your project. A typical Deluxe Album package will take up to 4 weeks to complete after receiving your photos. If you have a particular deadline, please let me know and I will do everything I can to work with you to complete your project by that time, though a rush project may incur an extra charge. I usually prefer to work at my own pace so that I can ensure all elements and photos are perfect.

What if I don't like the end result?

I will be in constant contact with you during the project. Unless you want to be completely surprised by the finished product, I will email layouts to you as I complete them to ensure I am on the right track. My primary goal is that you are happy with your project. But please, keep in mind that these projects are made custom for you per your specifications. If a layout does not meet your expectations, please let me know if you discover a problem, so that I may rework it as soon as possible.

How many photos can fit on a page?

This can vary dramatically depending on the size of your page and your willingness to allow me to crop and  resize your photos. Typically a one page 12 x 12 layout contains 3 - 4 photos, but I have included several more by creative cropping. I also have a habit of finding my favorite photo and showcasing it on a page of it's own, but this option is completely up to you.

Can you fix photographic issues with photos that are already printed?

This is another varying answer. Red eye can almost always be corrected regardless of the format of the photo. Other issues will be dependent upon the quality of the original photo and the quality of the scan I am able to retrieve from your photo. Often I can make at the very least, minor adjustments to enhance the photo's quality.

Will you alter the photo prints that I send to you?

Unless otherwise noted, I will crop and utilize your photos to best fit the page and feel of the layout. This is why I always advise you keep a copy of the original. Of course, if you want each photo kept unaltered, this can also be arranged.

How do I get the journaling on my pages?

You may provide the journaling to me and I will computer generate it in the font of your choice and include it on your page. I can also simply leave a blank journaling box for you to fill in later. If this is your choice, I will provide you with an acid-free pen. You will need to estimate the size of the journaling box you will require.
